VIEW GALLERY: Collins Middle School Scholars Captivated by Ipswich Museum’s ‘Dig It!’

Collins Middle School grade 6 scholars received a recent visit from the Ipswich Museum Thursday, Dec. 7 to engage in a lesson called ‘Dig It!’ in which students learned about some of the first peoples who lived on the North Shore and the archaeological artifacts from the Bull Brook area of Ipswich.

Students observed and handled objects — estimated to be between 10,000-12,00 years old — and made educated guesses about their use based on the evidence of the object, such as scratches, shape, and sharp edges.

Dig It! was funded by a grant written by the grade 6 Social Studies team to the Salem Education Foundation.
