Grade 6 Design and Modeling Showcase

As Friday marked the end of the semester, it was time for Collins Middle School grade 6 scholars to showcase the fruits of their collective labor at the CMS Design and Modeling Showcase.

Over the final days of the semester, students collaborated on robotics projects and created games, devices and programs centered around improving quality of life and hand-eye coordination. Among the inventions were:

  • A tool to help grasp and slice fruit and vegetables safely, smoothly and more accurately in the finest portions.
  • A speed button pressing game to improve color recognition and hand-eye coordination.
  • Robot that navigates to the stride in which the operator walks, operational by remote console (perfection was still in progress as the student was challenged with repairing a faulty wheel).
  • Remote gaming robot that spins rapidly while carrying objects tasking the observer to remove it as is spins.
  • A computer game which not only improves hand-eye coordination, but finger coordination for disabled folks. Has skill levels. Have to maneuver the key.
  • A walker designed for folks who have trouble walking, enabling them to maintain stamina and strength.
  • A miniature gaming table for games similar to ping pong or Spikeball to improve hand-eye coordination.

Our strategic plan in action: Project-based learning to solve real-world problems.
